Capt. Sergio Bautista, B.A

Sergio currently serves as a captain and line check airman for the Airbus 320 Series in Spirit Airlines. With over 15 years in the industry, Sergio has operated A320’s as captain in both North and South America as well as serving as a simulator instructor in Miami, Florida. 

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to a Dominican father and a Colombian mother, Sergio grew up in Santo Domingo and later lived in Colombia and Peru. He studied business administration in Miami-Dade College, obtaining an Associates Degree and later obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in the same field in California Coast University, Santa Ana. 

Sergio completed his flight training in ADF Airways in Miami, FL; where he went from initial private pilot all the way to ATP certificate. He also became a CFI in ADF flight school, attaining his CFI, CFI-II and MEI. In his capacity as a flight instructor, Sergio taught the full curriculum to students from all over the world and later became a check pilot under FAR part 141, overseeing the operation and 6 other flight instructors. 

In 2011, he joined LATAM Peru airlines as a first officer in the Airbus 320 Series. As part of his duties in Peru, Sergio flew some of the most challenging routes in South America, including Cuzco, Quito and La Paz. He later upgraded to captain in the same fleet and became a mentor to junior pilots. 

Continuing with this passion for education and flight instruction, Sergio became a part time Airbus 320 instructor, teaching ground school as well as providing flight training to initial, upgrading, transitioning, and recurrent to local and foreign crews, under FAA and ICAO standards. 

Sergio currently resides in South Florida, where he is based with Spirit Airlines and constantly operates to both North and South America. His hobbies include photography and bike riding, and he enjoys traveling with his family for vacation.
